The 2008 season at Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre continues with "Forever Plaid," performed at 8:30 p.m. outdoors Thursdays and weekends July 5 to July 26 at the theatre, 143 Compromise St. This musical tells the story of four high school friends who meet in the early 1950s and form a singing group in the style of four-part harmony groups like the Four Freshman, the Four Lads and the Crew Cuts. About to appear in their first big show, they die in a car accident. The play begins when they return from the afterlife for one last chance at musical fame.

Seeking Liberty: Annapolis, An Imagined Community

In 2008, the right to citizen-elected representation in Annapolis will be 300 years old. The city charter granted to Annapolis in 1708 gave the city political reality. With this exhibit we commemorate the current anniversary by celebrating the quest for liberty. Many of these artifacts have never been on display for the public before this. Visit the exhibit which will be on display at the Banneker-Douglas Museum in Annapolis from February through November 2008. There will also be a few smaller exhibits open to the public at some of the sites involved in the exhibit. The exhibition was funded by a grant from Preserve America. This exhibition features a free cell phone audio tour generously funded by a grant from the Four Rivers Heritage Area.

Enjoy a 45 minute guided tour through the habitats of Patuxent Research Refuge on an all electric, open-air tram. View wildlife and their habitats while discovering the story of how the land has changed over time and how Patuxent is managing habitats for wildlife. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for seniors over 55, and $2 for children under 12. Please bring exact change. Space is limited.

Summer Mini-Camp: Refuge Ranger

Ages 8-10: Come learn what it's like to be a refuge ranger! Explore hands-on how wildlife survives on a refuge. Learn to identify plants, animals, and insects and learn how to protect wildlife. Of course, there's much more to a refuge ranger, but you'll have to come to find out!
Summer day camps are on a first-come-first-served basis and require registration by phone at 301.497.5887. Participants may only attend one camp within their age group. Participants should dress for the weather, (long pants are recommended), wear sunscreen/insect repellent, and bring water and a bag lunch that does not need to be refrigerated. As with all programs, they are free, however donations to the Friends of Patuxent are appreciated. ALL MINI-CAMPS ARE HELD AT THE NORTH TRACT.

Ben & Jerry's ice cream will be donating proceeds from discounted ice cream at the event. Also, a bake sale and cake raffle will finish your feast with sweetness.
Annapolis Rotary members pay all their own administrative costs for the operation of the club, so 100% of all funds raised are donated to local charities. Last year's crab feast donated $60,000 directly to local charities and non-profit groups. More than $1 million has been awarded since the first Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast in 1946.

The Talent Machine Company's teen cast will be presenting Evita as its annual summer production. Evita, told entirely through song and dance, follows the life of Argentina's infamous Eva Peron. The show is presented by a cast of more than 20 teens from throughout Anne Arundel County with very strong performance backgrounds. The show is vocally powerful with music written for Evita by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice combined with the moving portrayal of the life of Eva (Duarte) Peron.
Show dates and times are August 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 at 7:30, August 3rd at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 and August 10th @ 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.00 for General Admission and $10.00 for children under age 7. All tickets are discounted $2.00 for advance purchase prior to July 26th. Reservations can be made online at The Talent Machine Company website at www.talentmachine.com.
