Jury Selection
I just found out that in Anne Arundel County, the Circuit Court uses the DMV Driver's License list to pull jurors for the Circuit Court. It used to be the Voter Registration list since you had to be a citizen to serve as juror, but now they use both lists. In Maryland, non-citizens have driver's licenses, and the Circuit Court is pulling jurors from that list. So now we have non-citizens serving as jurors in the Circuit Court in Anne Arundel County. What next? Illegals appointed as judges I guess.

Congress Ignors Energy
Last week, the U.S. Congress left Washington without addressing the energy crisis. They didn't deal with gas prices. They didn't move on solutions to climate change. What's worse, their inability to renew the clean energy tax credits means that government incentive programs to support the solar and wind industries will expire at the end of this year. As the result of Congress' inaction, jobs will be lost and precious development time will be wasted. Scientists, engineers and entreprenuers say that America can generate 100% of our electricity from clean sources -- and they say that we can do it within ten years. We can not make the shift to renewable energy sources -- rebuilding our economy and cutting fuel costs with inaction. In a year when 'change' has become a refrain, let's tell Congress how we feel and show them what real change looks like. It is time for change. All across this great country we hear about letters to the editor in support of the oil industry -- it seems to be a clear sign of an orchestrated campaign to maintain the status quo. We need to respond -- to make sure the media stops focusing on simplistic and misleading proposals that will worsen our economy. There is no time to waste. It is time for change.

No You Didn't...
Most people living in these developments are hard working people. Well if they are so hard working then why are they in Public Housing living on the taxpayers dime? By all means spend your hard earned money on rent.

What....
In a letter to the editor entitled "Public Housing" on May 19th, I would like to know why, if 30% of the people living there can afford to buy a house in A.A. County, as Belawn McGowan stated, Why in the hell am I paying for them to live in the projects? Belawn also goes on to say that white people know nothing of the history and culture, It seems to me that if Public Housing, drugs and murder are part of it something needs to change. Someone from the outside trying to change things is more than the people that reside in the neighborhoods do. Help yourself for a change.

Bus Driver
At 1:05 on 5/14 on Davidsonville Rd. in Davidsonville where the speed limit drops to 35 mph, I witnessed a blonde female bus driver doing well over the posted speed, driving with one hand and talking on her cell phone. I don't know what she was paying attention to, perhaps the phone call, but it wasn't the speed limit.

MD property tax
Forgive me for stating the obvious, but the lawmakers in Annapolis continue to reach for every single drop of blood through unreasonable taxation. My latest home assessment shows my home gaining 12% in value in the next three years (for tax purposes). Maybe these folks should examine the Standards and Poor's Case-Shiller report on regional home values across the US. They show a dramatic fall since late 2004 und still falling. I do not mind paying increased taxes when my home actually gains value, but it is not. Maybe MD lawmakers should cut spending.

Doonesbury
Please tell me what happened to Doonesbury. If I remember correctly, several months ago The Capital took great pains to find out what comics its readers wanted. There was some controversy over Doonesbury, but as many liked it as didn't. And it was not one of the strips that was suggested as a possibility for replacement. Now, without any warning, Doonesbury disappeared. I like Pearls Before Swine and I'm happy to see it daily. I completely agree with Theresa D. GET RID OF CATHY with its insipid attempt at humor. Please bring back Doonesbury or give your readers a good reason that we're not getting it. Thank you.

Choice is good
http://www.mddailyrecord.com/article.cfm?id=4445&type=UTTM I came across this article in a local paper and I was really relieved to see an elected official taking a stance and promoting new business in the area. It’s not anything ground breaking but anytime a community is given the ability to choose, it’s always a step in the right direction. And what's even better is the company is a well respected telephone, internet and cable provider. I’ve used Cavalier for some time now and the city of Baltimore is in for some good times.

Death penalty
I see that most Maryland residents favor the sanction. It would be nice to see a poll of how many favor actually using it. Surely some of the cases are not in doubt as to the guilt of the condemned and could be carried out. I believe it would be a deterent if it were used, however, if it does not act as a deterrent as many claim then perhaps it should still be administered for the punishment of the crime.

Paul Johnson
No one will beat him up for taking a fantastic opportunity. What disappoints me ie his public comments abou7t not looking, saying it would take a phenomanel opportunity for him to consider leaving. As the facts unfold it turns out he was in heavy talks with three schools. Under similar circumstances if one of his players said similar remarks they would have been guilty of a violation of the honor code.
